The Trees

The trees are coming

  into leaf
Like something almost

  being said;
The recent buds relax

  and spread,
Their greenness is a

  kind of grief.

Is it that they are

  born again
And we grow old? No,

  they die too.
Their yearly trick of

  looking new
Is written down in rings

  of grain.

Yet still the unresting

  castles thresh
In fullgrown thickness

  every May.
Last year is dead, they

  seem to say,
Begin afresh, afresh,

  afresh.

Scheme F5 Latest Status

Aerial view of Camp Bling : CLICK FOR GOOGLE MAP (External link) On Wednesday 20th June 2007 Southend Borough Council announced a revised proposal for the controversial Priory Crescent road widening scheme.

The latest plan includes both junction improvements at Cuckoo Corner roundabout (where the A127 and A1159 Priory Crescent meet), and new dual carriageway adjacent to the northern edge of Priory Park, between the current park boundary, and existing residential/commercial premises.

On the night of the announcement, members of Camp Bling, Parklife, and Priory Park Preservation Society, agreed unanimously to REJECT the Council proposal (please see links below to the Parklife press release, letter to the Editor, and scheme diagram).

It is felt by those involved with the campaign that this latest move on the part of the local authority is nothing more than a cynical ploy to neutralise residents concerns, in order to build 'F5 phase 1' with all the associated damage that this would bring, whilst retaining the option for 'phase 2'* at a later date.

Therefore after much consideration and discussion amongst the groups involved and with the wider public, the bulk of the content on this website remains unchanged. We feel that the risks and potential impacts remain the same - including to the East Saxon king's burial and surrounding area - when 'phase 1' is proven not to work.

To find out more in terms of what you can do to help, please check out both the 'Camp Bling' and 'Act NOW!' pages for more information regarding both protest site and ongoing campaign support.

WE have stopped half the road - now we need YOUR help to stop the other half.
